What To Look For In An RV Campground

The Good Life Travel

You’re planning your RV trip for next weekend. You’re excited to hit the open road with your family, but you haven’t given too much thought to where you’re camping. Obviously, you know your destination. But, you aren’t sure how far you want to drive on the first day, and whether you want to make some stops along the way. You’re planning on just Googling the nearest campground when you feel the time is right to set up camp for the night.

If you’re thinking that all campgrounds are the same, think again. Every campground has its own set of rules and regulations, as well as different amenities. If you aren’t looking for full hookups, you can be less picky about what campground you choose for your stay. But if you’re looking for a stay complete with power, water and WiFi, there are several things you should look for before making your decision.

POWER UP

Check out how many powered campgrounds there are at the site you want to stay. You’ll find some campgrounds have a limited number of powered spaces. If that is the case, it is always a good idea to call the campground ahead of time and see how many spaces are available that night. When you dock your RV at the campground and plug into the campsites “shore power,” it’s a good idea to keep a power plug adapter handy.  These adapters will convert the power for you if your RV requires a different amp plug than the outlet available at your campsite. Before you plug anything in, make sure the breaker is turned off.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION

Location is everything when you are choosing your campground. It’s always a great idea to try and find a campground that’s reasonably close to stores or town in case you need to make a trip for supplies or medicine. If you have a specific place you want to visit with your toad, picking a campground that is closer to that location is a great idea.

Remember that different campgrounds have different rules for check in and check out. Although some sites will have 24 hour check in, many have set times that you must check in and out. Check in times vary from depending on the site, so if you are just planning on stopping when you are tired of driving in the middle of the night be sure you choose a site that has 24 hour check in, or call ahead to see if there are arrangements you can make.

OTHER AMENITIES

Aside from the basic necessities like power and water, you can find campgrounds that offer a slew of other goodies to make your stay more enjoyable. Campgrounds with WiFi are always a perk, especially when your kids are along for the ride. You can find campgrounds that have swimming pools, large bathrooms, washers and dryers and even their own trail system for biking or walking. Most sites come with a campfire ring so that you can get roasting right away.

Picking the right campground for your stay will definitely affect your camping experience. There are many differences in campgrounds, some offering more luxurious stays while others bring you to simpler times by just offering the basics. No matter what campground you choose for your stay, the one thing that won’t change is your RV. Your mobile home away from home will provide you a consistent atmosphere no matter what campground you choose!
