RV Road Trip Eats: Best Burgers

Travel

You know the feeling.  Sometimes you just need a juicy burger accompanied by some perfectly salted, crispy fries. We know what it’s like to have a hankering for a good burger just like you, so we’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite burger joints in Iowa. All of the places we selected are within a half hour drive of a campground, so pack up the travel trailer, because we’re providing you with some burgers that are worthy of a mini road trip.

At most of these restaurants, parking can be limited for large vehicles or towables. We suggest either hauling a toad along with you to drive to the restaurants, or parking your rig and unhooking so that you can drive a smaller vehicle there and not worry about parking.

Rusty Duck: Dexter, Iowa

Just thinking about the bacon cheeseburger is making our mouths water. Located in Dexter, Iowa, this burger joint is a central Iowa must visit. If you like hefty portions of beef and home fries, you will love the Rusty Duck.

Zombie Burger, Des Moines, Iowa

When you’re hungry for brains, uh- burgers I mean, Zombie Burger is the place to go. With a great, zombie themed atmosphere and menu, your burger experience here will be so good it’s scary. Be sure to try their zombie sauce, and if you’re brave enough, try “The Walking Ched.” This burger has a deep fried macaroni and cheese “bun.” Finish it off with one of their famous milkshakes!

Stella’s: Iowa City, Iowa

“STELLAAAAA!” This restaurant has some of the best burgers in Iowa City. With over 25 burger options, you’re sure to get your burger fix when you stop by. There may be a lot of burger options, but, in our opinion, you can’t go wrong with any of your choices at Stella’s. And don’t forget to try their special sauce!

Cider House: Fairfield, Iowa

They didn’t win Iowa’s Best Burger in 2015 for nothin’. Located in Fairfield, Iowa, these burgers will definitely leave you feeling full and happy. The “Das Kraut Burger” with homemade pickles and triple-cooked fries is a favorite.  Yes.  We said ‘triple-cooked!’

Down Right Delicious: Clarinda, Iowa

The name says it all. With servings that are downright huge, you are in for a juicy treat when you come to this shop in Clarinda, Iowa. If you have enough room after chowing down on your monster burger, you will definitely want to try their desserts. They’ve got fresh pastries, cinnamon rolls, doughnuts and more!
