Foiled Again: Simple RV Cooking Recipes

The Good Life Tips and Tricks

When you’re cooking up campfire food, it’s best to have simple, yet delicious recipes that will cook over the fire. The best tool for a perfect campfire meal? Tin foil. By using foil, you can wrap up different foods and turn them into warm and delicious campfire-goodness.Not to mention, foil-wrapped foods are simple to throw together quickly when you are hungry after a full day of outdoor activities, and you won’t need many cooking utensils either.

Grab the foil and your appetite. Here are some of our favorite foil based recipes for the campfire:

Blueberry Muffin Oranges This one really gets clever with its cooking container. First, you cut the orange out of its skin in neat halfs. Fill one half of the orange skin with blueberry muffin mix, and then place the other empty half on top of it. Then, warp the blueberry mix filled orange in three layers of tinfoil, and throw it into the coals of the fire. Turn them over every minute, and once they’ve been on the fire for 10 minutes, unwrap and eat your delicious muffin out of the orange with a spoon!

Grilled Chicken: Don’t let the outdoors fool you…just because you’re camping doesn’t mean you can’t create a culinary masterpiece. This recipe take a few ingredients, but once you’re unwrapping that foil and the steam is released, you will be happy you made it. Take instant brown rice, some frozen vegetables of your choice (we suggest carrots, black beans, or snap peas), boneless chicken breasts, and some honey, lime juice, and cilantro. For a little kick of flavor, add 1 tablespoon of Sriracha sauce. Our mouths are watering just thinking about it.

Burritos: Campfires and burritos just go together so well. Especially breakfast burritos. The ratio of what you want in your “campurittos” is really up to you. You could pack it full of sausage, eggs, bacon or make them vegetarian style. Some of our favorite fillers? Definitely potatoes, cheddar cheese, and some green onion. Wrap em’ up in their tortillas and then wrap them in foil and you will be good to go!

Campfire Philly: This one is definitely a welcomed change from the typical cold cut sandwich. In fact, this Philly is more like a loaf. You take a large loaf of french bread and cut slits into it- but not all the way through. Then, you drop large spoonfuls of peppers, roast beef and a slice of cheese into each slit. Spray down the foil with cooking spray and wrap the whole loaf up, and put it over the fire. The result? A warm toasted Philly, begging for you to pull a piece off!

Grilled Apples: And for dessert? You’ll have to give these decadent grilled apples a try. You’ve  probably heard of a blooming onion, but have you ever tried a blooming apple? You slice up an apple and fill the center with maple cream caramel sauce, wrap it up in foil and place it over the fire for 30 minutes, or until the apple is soft and baked. Then unwrap that sucker and ingest your campfire dessert! And for an added bonus, pack some ice cream with you in your RV’s freezer. Now you’ve got campfire dessert a la mode!
